Solar Eclipse Expeditions

A solar eclipse journey with me is not just a trip to the right place on the map. It is an expedition led by someone with more than 30 years of experience in astronomical observation, including running the teleskopy.net portal, organizing the National Astronomical Meetings in Poland, and preparing and leading several successful solar eclipse expeditions in different parts of the world. Thanks to this, I know how to plan observations, assess locations, respond to weather, and make sure participants have a real chance to see the most important moment: the total phase of the eclipse.

My many years of experience in organizing expeditions around the world are also highly important. I have worked with routes and logistics from New Zealand, through Europe, including Iceland, to Mexico and the United States. In eclipse expeditions, astronomy alone is not enough. You need to combine knowledge of the phenomenon with transport, accommodation, safety, backup plans, and the practical realities of travel in a given country. This kind of experience makes it possible to lead a group calmly, even when the weather or local conditions require a quick change of plan.

I have also devoted my life to photography, which is especially important during solar eclipse expeditions. My experience includes both professional photographic practice and studies at the School of Art, College of Design at Louisiana State University. Thanks to this, I can help participants not only see the eclipse, but also photograph it better, choose the right composition, prepare their equipment, and avoid common mistakes during those few crucial minutes. This combination of astronomy, trav

Total Solar Eclipse – Australia 2028

We invite you to join us on a journey to Australia in July 2028 to witness one of those rare events that remain with you for a lifetime: a total solar eclipse. Our proposed viewing location is Karlu Karlu, better known as Devils Marbles, in the heart of the Northern Territory, surrounded by silence, open space, and monumental boulders that seem as though they were scattered across the red earth by some ancient hand.

Annular Solar Eclipse – Madeira 2028

We invite you to keep an eye on our plans for a remarkable journey to Madeira in January 2028, where we hope to witness an annular solar eclipse together, one of those rare events that lingers in memory for years. An island rising from the Atlantic, shaped by mountains, cliffs, and open ocean, feels like a natural stage for a meeting of light, shadow, and sky. Even now, this promises to be a journey filled with beauty, emotion, and astronomical wonder.

Total Solar Eclipse – Morocco 2027

We invite you to join us on a journey to Morocco in 2027 to witness one of those rare moments that stay with you forever: a total solar eclipse. Imagine the light of the desert, far horizons, the warm colors of the south, and that extraordinary instant when day turns to twilight and the Sun’s corona appears above the landscape.

Solar eclipse as viewed from Artemis II

There are eclipses, and then there are eclipses seen from the edge of Earth’s cradle. From aboard Integrity, the Orion spacecraft of the Artemis mission, the familiar drama of Sun, Moon, and shadow becomes something altogether more profound: a silent alignment suspended over the curve of our world. No crowd noise. No horizon haze. Only the stark brilliance of sunlight, the advancing darkness, and the fragile blue glow of home hanging in the distance.

Total Solar Eclipse in Iceland 2026 – 4×4 Route Plan p.1

Iceland will be one of the best places in the world to observe the total solar eclipse on August 12, 2026. Located directly within the path of totality, it offers around 1–2 minutes of full eclipse depending on the viewing spot. Western Iceland stands out in particular, combining favorable viewing conditions with vast, dramatic landscapes.

The 4×4 route is designed for maximum flexibility, which is essential given Iceland’s rapidly changing weather. It allows travelers to move between potential observation points, including regions such as the Westfjords and the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, while also experiencing glaciers, volcanic terrain, and rugged coastal scenery.

Total Solar Eclipse in Iceland 2026 – 4×4 Route Plan p.2

The second part of the 4×4 route plan focuses on the final positioning for the total solar eclipse on August 12, 2026. Being inside the path of totality is essential, especially in western Iceland, including the Westfjords, Snæfellsnes Peninsula, and the Reykjavík area, where the eclipse can last up to around two minutes depending on location.

This stage emphasizes flexibility in the days leading up to the event, allowing travelers to adjust their position based on real-time weather forecasts. A 4×4 vehicle makes it possible to relocate quickly and access remote viewing spots, maximizing the chances of clear skies while continuing to explore Iceland’s rugged and less-visited landscapes.

Total Solar Eclipse in Iceland 2026 – Camper Route Plan p.2

The second part of our Iceland journey moves through the north of the country and into the rugged Westfjords, where the road feels even more expedition-like and the landscapes become even wilder. We begin near Húsavík, with an optional whale-watching start, then continue past the turf churches of Vidimýrarkirkja and Grafarkirkja, the historic farm at Glambær, the geothermal waters of Grettislaug, the dramatic sea stack Hvítserkur, Kolugljúfur canyon, and the shoreline hot pots of Drangsnes. This is the stage where Iceland reveals its harsher northern character, rich in history, distance, and the raw rhythm of travel.

From there the route dives into the Westfjords through Litlibær, Ísafjörður, Dynjandi, and the hot pools of Arnarfjörður before reaching Patreksfjörður, where the great climax of the expedition awaits: the total solar eclipse. After that extraordinary day, the journey continues past the Garðar BA64 shipwreck, geothermal stops, and across western Iceland toward Snæfellsnes, with highlights including Gerðuberg, Lóndrangar, Djúpalónssandur, Kirkjufellsfoss, Hraunfossar, Deildartunguhver, and Glymur. This is not merely the way back. It is the second movement of the expedition, with the eclipse at its heart and the rest of Iceland unfolding around it like a grand northern saga.

Total Solar Eclipse in Iceland 2026 – Camper Route Plan p.1

The opening days of our Iceland camper expedition feel like stepping straight into the machinery of the planet itself. We begin on the Reykjanes Peninsula, where the Mid-Atlantic Ridge rises above the ocean and the landscape is shaped by tectonic fissures, lava fields, geothermal areas, and wild coastal cliffs. After crossing the symbolic bridge at Brú Milli Heimsálfa and exploring the steaming world of Gunnuhver, we continue across southwest Iceland, ending the day in a setting that immediately gives the journey its expedition character.

The following days take us deep into Iceland’s most cinematic landscapes: Kerið, Þingvellir, Brúarfoss, the Haukadalur geothermal zone, and Gullfoss, before carrying us onward to the great southern waterfalls, black beaches, hidden canyons, and glacier fronts. Along the route are both iconic sites and quieter marvels, including Seljalandsfoss, Skógafoss, Reynisfjara, Fjaðrárgljúfur, Svartifoss, Fjallsárlón, and Jökulsárlón. This is the kind of stage where every day feels like a full chapter of an epic journey, and the road becomes part of the wonder.

Easter Island and Solar Eclipse 2024

Okay… the coolest place to see a solar eclipse? In 2023, it was the ruins of Uxmal, Mexico. 2024 probably wants to beat this by giving us an annular eclipse visible from the middle of the Pacific, from Easter Island. Plans are already being made, details coming soon, but if it works, it will be… wow!
