The West MacDonnell National Park covers an area of 2069 km ² in the mountain range of the MacDonnell in Australia’s Northern Territory west of the town of Alice Springs.
It was founded in 1992 after the government of the Northern Territory had bought 170,000 hectares of land in five regions because of multiple avalanches demolished cattle ranches.
From Alice Springs park and its attractions are accessible by paved road. From Uluru, there is a road that is passable only with four-wheel drive (well, it’s legally accessible by such cars… but it is really easy drive, the road is just a dirt road).
