Annular Eclipse over Yucatan in Mexico 2023

In October 2023, the Moon will pass in front of the Sun’s disk – however, due to the position of both objects and their relative sizes, it will not be a total eclipse, but an annular one, during which 0.96 of our star’s disk will be covered at its maximum. However, this phenomenon will be visible from an unusual region – a world 1000 years ago inhabited by the Mayans, the creators of an unusual civilization. Therefore, I invite you to join me on a journey during which we will discover a lost civilization, wonderful nature and the colors of Mexico.

Annular Solar Eclipse

Bryce Canyon National Park

Amfiteatr kanionu Bryce, autor Jean-Christophe BENOISTBryce Canyon National Park lies in southwestern part of Utah in USA. In spite of being named ‘canyon’ it’s most famous feature is a huge natural amphiteatre sculpted in the eastern flank of pink, orange and yellow sandston of Paunsaugunt Plateau. Within it tall spires – called hoodoos and reaching up to 60 meters rise. Area has been designated a National Treasure in 1923, and five years later a National Park. It has an area  150 km²  and height of 2400 – 2700 m above sea level. Being further away from large cities is much less visited.

Climate

Bryce Canyon N.P. climate is rather temperate and, as compared to other parks in the area, rateher wet – total yearly rainfall averages between 38 up to 46cm. Average minimum winter temperatures fall to -13ºC in January, while maksimum average temperature in July rise to  28ºC. As for 2012 annular eclipse weather data, we can expect 74% chance of seeing the Sun – average number of partially cloudy sky to clear sky in May  is 22 and only nine with full cloud cover. In case weather prospects don’t look good we migh decide to move observation to Zion or Grand Canyon National Parks.
